The GSKCH Management Trainee Programme is widely recognized as an industry best practice. It begins with an Induction programme where the eager and enthusiastic, if somewhat apprehensive, batch of fresh entrants is introduced to the senior management team. This is followed by a couple of business games and informal discussions with company leaders. Over the next 12 months, management trainees undergo a complete business orientation which could see them traveling across dust ridden roads of rural India atop a bus in Rajasthan, savouring a refreshing mug of chilled Chocolate Horlicks at Rajahmundry or part of the brand team that is furiously arguing over a creative idea.
While this might sound like a roller-coaster ride, the calming presence of a mentor makes the journey smoother. Mentoring in GSKCH is offline help of a more skilled and experienced person to help a new entrant learn the ropes or a less skilled/experienced person make a significant transition in culture, knowledge and skill sets . At another level, there is an excellent support system in a buddy who is there to sort out life's little tangles for a new recruit. A buddy is usually a person who is just a year or two senior in the company who has had similar experiences and who serves as an emotional anchor.
Sometimes being exposed to various facets of a business leads to a realization of preference for a function other than the established area of expertise. GSKCH takes pride in its philosophy of 'growing our own timber' and actively encourages cross functional moves across various levels.
